Hamburg

Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany after Berlin with 1.7 million people, so is a very good opportunity to meet people and of course to visit beautiful places in this great city. The port is simply colossal, you’ll see the world’s largest freighters, and you can use the ferry to navigate the Elbe river.

The best thing you can do is reserve a good hotel in the downtown (eg. the Marlott) that lets you go out and take a nice walk through the shopping streets, to do some buying and end up in the canal beside the Town Hall, also known as the Rathaus. This historic building has more than 600 rooms and looks beatiful at night.

After the walk, you can go to dinner at one of the restaurants that are under the street along the canal. In the latter you will to book a table, so if you do not want to wait half an hour, I recommend another that is very quiet and very well priced: the “Gasthaus” in the street “Ferdinandstrabe 65-67.” Of course, at all of them will find the famous German sausages and a good beer “Alsterwasser”. If you want to go into heat instantly take a shot of  the “Schanpper” dessert liqueur. Really works!

At late night you can go to the  St. Pauli district, where you can also browse the shop windows with famous women of the world’s oldest profession. This is the Red Light District and is called “Reeperbahn”.
