All about Playa Blanca

The sunny island of Lanzarote is one of the most popular and best known of all the Canary Islands. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean and is the most eastern of the Canary Island, lying just 125 kilometres off of the coast of northern Africa. Lanzarote is home to some of the world`s most breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, not to mention some particularly lovely beaches. One of the main reasons that people go to Playa Blanca is to spend time sprawled out on the beautiful White Beach from which the town takes its name. Playa Blanca has been awarded a European blue flag for cleanliness making it the perfect place to swim and enjoy the sunshine. Other beaches in the local area include Playa Flamingo, Playa Dorada and Papagayo, all of which are delightful and family friendly. However there are lots of things to do in Playa Blanca besides enjoy the sunshine on the beaches. As Playa Blanca is a port town there are many boat trips available, ranging from pleasure cruises on yachts, deep see marline life spotting and sea taxis to nearby beaches. You could even take the ferry and island hop across to La Graciosa (the smallest inhabited Canary Island) or Fuerteventura, a largely un-spoilt island that is definitely worth the trip.

Getting to Lanzarote is pretty straight forward, as regular flights land there leaving from airport all across the UK. Playa Blanca is great for those who do not like long transfers as it is only 33 kilometres from the airport, which can be done in a taxi or hired car.
