Colorado Travel Guide

By Mansi Aggarwal A Google search of the word ‘Colorado’ reveals a list of websites ranging from the website of the Government of Colorado to the websites of various educational institutions and universities. Among the diverse tourism websites mentioned, the one that catches your eye is visitcolorado4less.com. A click on the link fills your screen with beautiful ice capped peaks of Colorado. A brief overview of the website further assures the browser that he is at the right web link. The website offers exhaustive information about the State which is vaguely situated in Central USA. The name Colorado traces its genesis to Spanish’ color red. The Centennial State or Colorful Colorado, as it is commonly called, has Denver as its capital. Colorado is essentially famous for its winter sports, but it seems to cater to everyone’s hobbies. Fishing, skiing, rafting, rock climbing, camping, hiking, museums, historic sites – you find it all here. Apart from its scenic beauty Colorado has much more to offer. The state has numerous mountains, the highest peak being Mt. Elbert. It is also the home of the Rocky Mountains. Mountaineering becomes especially delightful during spring season when wild flowers are in full bloom. There is also a Colorado Mountain Club which is dedicated solely to the mountain activities. Colorado also has 8000 miles of rivers, offering water activities all over the state. As a result the first water garden society in the world has been founded here. The scenic beauty of Colorado is enhanced by the fact that water is virtually present everywhere. The best way to appreciate this beauty is through camping and horse riding. Leaving out the adventurers, Colorado offers a lot to the historians and the philosophers. There is a Colorado Shakespeare Festival organized annually in which hundreds of people gather together to produce the various Shakespeare classics. Dotted with ghost towns and mining sites, the state has enough history available to satisfy everyone’s intellectual appetite. Other attractions include the Colorado Brewer’s Festivals and numerous happening casinos. If one is on a holiday with the entire family, he may visit the Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center which is an artificial shelter of numerous insects like centipedes and beautiful butterflies. Other venues can be the Cave of Winds in which one can see the stalactite and stalagmite formation, Colorado Gators which homes alligators, Krabloonik – a kennel of sled dogs and Rock Canyon Water Slide which is a mini water park.. Tiny Town and Railroad are especially liked by children. Started in 1915, this children attraction includes 100 of miniature buildings which includes a toy store, a bank and a church. An open steam train gives a tour of this Tiny Town. Shopping is the ultimate activity which completes a holiday. And so we have Denver and Aspen the shopping hubs of Colorado. While both are known for its antiques, there are other avenues to indulge in as well. Colorado is also saturated with boarding houses and lodges, each famous for its own experiences. Accommodation is available of every cost, class and style. The Cottonwood Cove ranch is a cozy niche that offers a variety of outdoor activities and is good for fishing. Snowmass Village is a world class ski resort which offers plenty of summer activities as well. Another unique experience is the Vista Verde which is set in wilderness. With all these activities to do teamed with a comfortable stay, Colorado is the decisive destination where you should head to. About the Author: Mansi Aggarwal writes about colorado travel guide. So You Get The Cheap Travel To Mexico, What’s Next

By Larry Evans You finally received your tickets to Mexico at the cheapest price. You did it by researching and taking your time comparing and eliminating online and offline travel companies and agent one by one. You also got your desired hotel accommodation and itineraries that did not cost so much. Now, while you are packing your things and make your way to the airport, here are some of the things and necessary advises you should know before entry, upon entry, and while at the Mexico: Before you leave, you should have with you a photo I.D. such as passport and driver’s license, your tourist card, and your proof of citizenship. Bringing a photo I.D. would save you a lot of trouble when you check in on the airport. It would make sure that your ticket and your identity match. The tourist card is your gate pass to Mexico. It is given free of charge but should be surrendered when you leave the country. You can get it from your airline when you check-in or in the Mexican Immigration when you arrive the country. You must not lose it and must be included at your travel document. Loosing this card is not pretty good thing to happen but if it does, make sure you have copied the number. This would make the trouble a lot easier to deal with. Proof of citizenship should be your birth certificate. If you are a married woman and posses a driver’s license of your maiden name, be sure to bring your birth certificate to match the license. Upon arrival, go directly to the Mexican Immigration. Here, your tourist card is validated and proof of citizenship is inspected. You must sign and accomplish the customs declaration form. You should know what to declare and what are allowable to bring in the country. If you failed to declare any item that are not allowed you will be penalized. Here are some of the allowable items you can bring; toiletries, footwear, and clothing that is in relation to your trip duration, reading material (magazine and books), used sports equipment, one VCR, one camera, one movie camera, films (up to 12 rolls), 3L of wine or alcohol (18 years up and up), 50 cigars or 400 cigarettes (18 years old and up), musical instrument, portable TV, and medicines with prescription. While at Mexico you should obey the rules. If you plan to rent a car, there are lots of car rental companies in the country. It you are on a tight budget, rent a car before you arrive. Rental companies offer cheap rate if you reserve early. When you get involved in an accident, do not leave the place nor make any arrangements to other people. Contact your rental company for assistance. Do not argue. Bring the right amount of money for the day. Although Mexico uses their Peso, most business establishments accept US dollars. But peso would still give you better price. Wear comfortable clothes, Mexico is typically warm during summer and a bit cold during winter. But it still depends of your location that depends on the altitude. When dining, make sure you drink only bottled water. Wash the fruits first before eating. Peel if necessary. When traveling by bus, take the first class rather than the second class. First class is air-conditioned with slight price difference with the second. These are some of the things you need to know when you travel to Mexico. And to enjoy more your whole visit in the country: stay safe! How to Become a Travel Guide

By John Beede How can you become a travel guide? Being a travel or tour guide these days has become a very promising career because the tourism industry is growing rapidly in some areas. Travel guides do not need to be bilingual or know everything about the world. They do not need to always be knowledgeable about geography, history, and local culture. Though it counts to have all the facts about the location and having language abilities, guiding tours is more about managing and directing the people on the tours. In short, anybody can start to become a travel guide if they want to, because anything can be learned from training and further experience in the field. However, if you decide to have a career in directing tours, you must be prepared to be working away from home for you are always on the road making money. Travel guiding is a way of life for some people. The job of tour guides or tour directors is to manage the tour group. They make sure clients get what’s offered by the agencies and more. They also make sure that everyone shows up and manage everyone’s needs. They take care of the transportation and other tourist demands along the way. Some programs may include a bit of education and background information but in fact, it is often scripted either by the agency or if you are savvy enough, you will be able to make your own speeches and presentations. Travel guides coordinate the activities involved in the trip. It is rather essential to have an outgoing personality so you can make tours fun for the clients. Happy clients usually give tips and other incentives. Travel guides should at least have these qualifications to become effective in their work: -Good communication skills; Speaking in different tongues is a plus but not necessary -A sense of adventure and an outgoing personality -Strong appreciation for the place where you will be giving tours -Enthusiasm and leadership -Quick thinking and being able to deal with unpredictable situations like emergencies and mix-ups Applying for travel guide positions is rather easy. All you have to do is find travel and tour agencies. The Internet is good way to start hunting. Research and inquire for the qualifications that are needed. Some may require training and other certifications; attend classes and get certification to boost your qualifications. Travel directing and guiding can be categorized into different branches. Each has its own specialty and types of activities. Here are some of the common types of travel guide jobs: Adventure Guide: Basically, this includes outdoor excursions. These kinds of trips usually last longer and are more intense in terms of activity but offer more fun for the typical outdoors person. Hiking, rafting, climbing and other somewhat extreme activities are involved. For this type of job, a love of the outdoors is the most basic qualification. Bus Tour Leader: When you think of tour guides, this is usually what comes to mind. These guides specialize in showing scenery and landscape. They are usually well-versed in the history of a region. Guides of this type know lots of exciting and interesting facts to fill long driving spaces. City Tour Leader: These tour guides specialize in big and populated cities. They must know historic, architectural, and popular culture information about the town in which they hope to lead tours. These tours typically only last one day at the most. Health and safety are the primary issues for the travelers. A GOA Travel Guide

By Ken English Goa has a certain reputation, which dates back as far as the 1960’s, where it was regarded as a hippy paradise, a place for dropouts, and flower power, a not to be missed place for travellers, and probably regarded as the world centre for dope. All of this whilst not totally inaccurate might put you off a visit to Goa, which would be a mistake. Sure Goa can still be the place for all night parties, and beaches crowded with people selling hash to fund their alternative lifestyles, but there is much more to Goa than that. As background, Goa was a Portugese colony for hundreds of years, and that length of stay, they were finally kicked out in 1961, leaves an indelible impression, from Portugese churches, the fact that 30% of the population is Catholic. You will find European style villas scattered around in the rice fields, palm groves, often bearing coats of arms, and many imposing houses behind walls and locked gates. All of this makes Goa completely different to anywhere on the Indian Sub Continent. Although Goa was colonised by the Portugese over 500 years ago, it has new colonists, in that literally thousands of tourists visit every winter, many from Europe, but there is also a new generation of middle class young Indians from places like Delhi and Mumbai. There is a definite divide between on one hand the young generation, bombing around on bikes, going from one beach to another, having a great and very noisy time, often partying all night. This makes parts of Goa a nightmare for the middle class tourist who seeks a quiet quality five star resort, but the great joy of Goa, is that it has the room, the culture, the scenery to cope with both ends of the spectrum. So if you are looking for bargain prices, cheap accommodation, crowded beaches, hawkers, and action of the legal and perhaps slightly illegal kind, where food and drink are cheap, and the weather is fantastic then Goa is the place for you. On the other hand if your pleasure is to found in historic sites, on deserted beaches, or on the beach of a luxury resort, then go to the very far north or the deep south, and Goa will be a dream come true for you. Be warned however, many have come here for a vacation, and been seduced – They have never gone home, it’s that kind of paradise!!
